BBNaija first runner-up Aikou’s team launches a €69,783 GoFundMe to support his university education and “Project Professor” dream

BBNaija Season 11 first runner-up Aikou has become the subject of fresh online debate after his supporters launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking €69,783 to fund his university education.

The fundraiser, titled “Project Professor Aikou: The Aikou Legacy Project”, was reportedly organised by AIKONIC OMABABY shortly after the reality TV star finished as the first runner-up in the 11th season of Big Brother Naija.

The campaign is aimed at supporting Aikou’s ambition to return to school and pursue an academic career, with organisers urging fans who supported him throughout his time on the reality show to continue backing his ambitions outside the Big Brother house.

According to the campaign description, Aikou’s journey on Big Brother Naija may have ended, but his academic aspirations are only beginning.

“Project Professor AIKOU is an initiative created to support Aikou’s dreams of attending University and pursuing his academic ambitions,” the organisers stated.

The initiative has quickly attracted attention among BBNaija fans, although reactions to the fundraising target have been sharply divided.

As of the latest update referenced in the report, the campaign had raised €680 from 18 donations towards its €70,000 target, with the official target listed as €69,783.

While some supporters believe the fundraiser could help Aikou achieve an important personal ambition, others have questioned the size of the target and whether fans should be expected to finance the education of a reality television personality who has only recently left the show.

Some social media users expressed concern that Aikou, as the first runner-up of BBNaija Season 11, could potentially secure endorsement deals and other commercial opportunities following his appearance on the programme.

One critic questioned why fans should be asked to contribute financially when Aikou could potentially pursue sponsorship or other funding options for his education.

Another user suggested that he could explore the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, or seek an individual sponsor rather than rely on a large public fundraising campaign.

Other fans, however, defended the initiative and argued that there was nothing wrong with supporting Aikou’s educational ambitions.

One supporter wrote that he “deserves every kobo” and urged other fans to help make his academic dream a reality.

The mixed reactions have consequently shifted attention from Aikou’s performance on Big Brother Naija to the question of whether fans are willing to invest directly in the future of a former housemate.

The €69,783 target, which some commenters estimated at more than N100 million depending on the exchange rate, has particularly become a talking point among those questioning the campaign.

Aikou’s supporters have nevertheless maintained that the purpose of the fundraiser is centred on education rather than luxury, presenting “Project Professor” as a long-term investment in his academic ambitions.

His first-runner-up finish has also given him a substantial public platform, potentially creating opportunities for endorsements, appearances and other ventures as he begins life after the reality show.

For now, the response to the GoFundMe campaign remains mixed, with some fans rallying behind Aikou’s educational goal while others remain unconvinced about the need for such a significant fundraising target.

Whether the campaign eventually reaches its €69,783 goal will depend largely on the willingness of Aikou’s supporters to contribute and the momentum generated around his “Project Professor” ambition.
