Yvonne Jegede Says Marriage Is Overrated, Advocates Cohabitation

Actress Yvonne Jegede says marriage is overrated, citing short-lived unions. She suggests cohabitation as an alternative and remains open to remarriage without actively seeking it

Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has described marriage as “overrated,” pointing to cases where couples end long-term relationships shortly after tying the knot.

In a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos, Jegede shared her perspective on marriage and relationships, saying she is open to remarriage but not actively pursuing it.

“I am open to remarriage if it comes, but I am not looking for it. I have learnt not to say ‘never’,” Jegede said.

She added, “I think marriage is overrated. A lot of people who dated for 10 to 15 years got married, and then broke up within 2 to 3 years. Sometimes, you wonder why such couples didn’t just remain unmarried. Because when they add the marriage tag, a lot of intolerance gets in the way.”

The actress suggested that cohabitation could be a better alternative, allowing couples to be together without the added pressures of marriage. “I think it is better to find who you love and just cohabit with them,” she noted.
