Yvonne Jegede African Queen story reveals how she almost declined the iconic 2Baba video role that launched her into the spotlight and shaped her Nollywood career

Yvonne Jegede African Queen story has taken fans by surprise after the actress revealed she nearly turned down the role in 2Baba’s iconic 2004 music video.

Speaking on the Nollywood on Radio podcast, Jegede said she dismissed the initial call from the video director. “When the director of African Queen first called, I bluntly just said, ‘No, I am not interested,’” she recalled.

At the time, she wasn’t familiar with 2Baba’s solo career after his split from Plantashun Boiz. “I did not know what ‘African Queen’ was; I wondered, what is ‘African Queen,’ and which song is that?” she added.

Later that same day, a conversation with her friend Michael changed her mind. “He screamed, ‘I love that song, go and do it,’” she said. “And I said, okay, let me call the director… And lo and behold, I saw that legend 2Baba.”

Jegede described the shoot as surreal. Although the video brought her public attention, she insisted her true passion was always acting. “I just wanted to act. That’s always been the dream,” she said.

Aside from that project, she featured in one other music video Djinee’s  Ego only as a favour to a friend. Jegede clarified she never intended to become a video vixen, reinforcing her commitment to film.
