Wande Coal Hits Back at Davido Over Failed Collaboration

Wande Coal Davido clash deepens after the singer responds to Davido’s account of why their planned “Come My Way” collaboration was never released

Nigerian singer Wande Coal has hit back at fellow Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over comments about their unreleased collaboration on the remix of Coal’s song Come My Way.

The exchange followed remarks by Davido during a podcast interview in which the singer explained that the collaboration never materialised because of disagreements over how his recorded verse would be used.

Davido said he had recorded his contribution to the song but objected when Wande Coal planned to release the original track first and use his contribution on a subsequent remix.

“I recorded the song, then he wanted to drop the song first and use my own verse for the remix,” Davido said.

He added that he had not recorded the verse with the intention of it being used for a remix, describing his contribution as exceptionally strong.

Wande Coal has now offered a very different account of the disagreement.

Responding through his X account, the singer appeared to reject Davido’s suggestion that the collaboration’s failure was responsible for the song’s outcome.

“Carry song come give you as how? Song wey been get release plan and date!!! Song wey no be your own you wan dictate release plan,” Wande Coal wrote.

He continued: “That song fkin did well without you on it bruv!!!”

The response has added a fresh and more pointed dimension to the story surrounding the abandoned collaboration, with both artists presenting different perspectives on what prevented the record from being released.

Come My Way was released by Wande Coal without Davido’s contribution, while the proposed collaboration remained unreleased.

The disagreement also highlights the sometimes complicated creative and commercial decisions involved when established artists collaborate, particularly when questions over ownership, release dates and the use of recorded verses arise.

Neither artist indicated that the dispute would affect their broader careers, but Wande Coal’s response has nonetheless reignited public interest in the unreleased track and the circumstances surrounding it.
