Gabriel Oche Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, addressed the controversy during a candid appearance on The Real Shareholders podcast. He firmly stated that performing at political events does not equal political endorsement.

“As an artist, we are usually billed to perform,” he said. “In the current economy, if you’re opportuned to even get a gig from a political party, you’re lucky. So, respect to the party.”

Terry G emphasized he’s an independent artist, hired simply to entertain.

“I’m just doing my job. If I had said people should vote for APC, that’s a different thing. But I only went there to perform.”

The Free Madness crooner, who performed at Tinubu’s May 2023 event at MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, said fans were unfairly judging him.

“They are now judging me based on what I did, not what I said. No, you don’t need to judge me for that.”

Adding to the controversy, Terry G alleged in November 2023 that he was shortchanged by the APC. According to him, the agreed payment was hijacked by unnamed individuals.
