Tems empowers young women with new music initiative launching August 2025 in Lagos to support female creatives in songwriting, production, and music business
Tems empowers young women in a historic new chapter for African music, launching a bold and emotional initiative aimed at redefining opportunities for female creatives.
The Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer announced “The Leading Vibe Initiative,” a programme that will debut in Lagos this August, with the goal of building a new future for women in music.
Announced via Billboard, the project is set to create a pipeline for talented young women in Nigeria, offering real-world tools and access to an often male-dominated industry.
Tems described her motivation in clear and heartfelt terms. “My goal with the Leading Vibe Initiative is to help discover and support talented young women who have the potential to redefine the industry,” she said.
“By providing access, tools, and opportunity, we’re creating space for them to find their voices, step into their power and shape the future of music across the continent and globally.”
The inaugural seminar, which will run over two days from August 8th to 9th, will welcome up to 20 participants. These women, selected for their passion and potential, will take part in a carefully designed programme covering songwriting, production, studio sessions, business strategy, and panel discussions with music leaders.
The participants will also receive software and other professional resources to help kickstart or level up their careers.
This initiative marks a rare and welcome change in the creative landscape. In a region where female music professionals often lack the infrastructure or support needed to thrive, Tems is making a powerful investment not only in talent, but in equity.
The project has attracted strong backing. Tems has partnered with Native Instruments, a renowned music technology company. The brand will provide crucial support including software and training materials, enhancing the technical aspects of the programme.
Further underscoring her influence, Tems has officially joined Native Instruments’ artiste board, a group of global music leaders that includes Alicia Keys and Jacob Collier.
This partnership represents more than just equipment or sponsorship. It signifies validation for the initiative and gives participants access to a level of professionalism and industry-standard tools that would normally be out of reach.
Applications for the programme are open until July 13th, and are expected to draw interest from across the country. Only a small group will be selected, ensuring a focused and high-impact experience.
Although the initiative launches in Lagos, Tems has made it clear that this is just the beginning. Expansion to other African cities is already in the pipeline, meaning that even more young women will benefit in the years to come.
The announcement has been met with widespread praise. Fans, industry watchers, and fellow artistes have taken to social media to applaud Tems’ commitment to giving back.
While many celebrities focus on branding or endorsements, Tems is making a bold, structural move that could shift the entire industry’s approach to inclusion.
“Sometimes you just need one person to open the door,” a fan commented online. “Tems is that person now.”
In a world where access often dictates success, “The Leading Vibe Initiative” is poised to unlock doors that have remained closed for too long.
By equipping young women with the right tools and networks, Tems is doing more than empowering individuals — she is planting seeds for a more balanced and dynamic future in African music.
