Taylor Swift denies being envious of Selena Gomez’s wedding, clarifies her speech at the ceremony and shares why Ed Sheeran missed her engagement news

Taylor Swift engagement rumours took a fresh turn this week after the pop icon firmly denied speculation that she felt jealous over best friend Selena Gomez’s recent wedding.

Reports had swirled following Gomez’s low-key September wedding to music producer Benny Blanco, with claims emerging that Swift made playful remarks about being “beaten to the altar” during her toast.

However, the Love Story singer cleared the air during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Speaking candidly, Swift said, “I made sure not to mention anything about my engagement.” Instead, she explained that her wedding speech focused on her long-standing friendship with Gomez and their early years in the spotlight.

“I did some light teasing about how we dressed in 2008—the deep V-necks and colourful skinny jeans era,” Swift joked.

“But mostly, I talked about how happy I am for her and how wonderful it’s been to be part of her journey. I definitely didn’t make it about me.”

The Taylor Swift engagement chatter hasn’t stopped buzzing since her highly publicised relationship with American football star Travis Kelce gained traction.

Though neither has confirmed a wedding date, engagement rumours escalated after several joint public appearances.

Swift also addressed why her longtime friend Ed Sheeran was unaware of her engagement. “He doesn’t use a phone,” she revealed.

“He only communicates through email or FaceTime. It’s like trying to reach a medieval poet sometimes.”
