For many students, it’s a daily balancing act between academic pressure, financial hardship, and restrictive policies.

At Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), students from various departments voice concerns about how the campus environment affects their well-being and development.

Arafat Quadri, a Mass Communication student, questions the rule mandating sandals.

“It makes us feel like secondary school students. There’s no form of expression or joy here—no parties or fun. We’re like boarders.”

Blessing, from the Art and Design Department, highlights financial pressure.

“Assignments cost money. Some of us fend for ourselves, yet we are flooded with tasks. Life outside school isn’t considered.”

Alamin, studying Computer Science, agrees.

It makes us feel like secondary school students. There’s no form of expression or joy here—no parties or fun. We’re like boarders.

“Education is an investment in our future, but the cost is high. We just compile and carry on.”

Toluwalope, also from Mass Communication, acknowledges some positive efforts.

“The VC started the school stadium project, but it feels abandoned. We need events that let us show our talents and enjoy school life too.”

Students are not against discipline—they want balance.

They ask to be seen not just as learners but as individuals growing through life.
