Sheye Banks Champions African Creativity Through Tech

Sheye Banks promotes African creativity with blockchain, AI, and digital tools at Africa Blockchain Festival 2025 in Kigali.

Seyebomi Ogunsanya, popularly known as Sheye Banks, founder of Lagos-based creative-tech incubator Hevy Hub, has called for the integration of African creativity with emerging technologies to compete on the global stage.

He made the remarks during the Africa Blockchain Festival 2025 in Kigali.

Speaking to attendees, Banks emphasised that innovations such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and digital tools can act as a “global microphone” to showcase African stories and talent.

“These innovations don’t erase cultural authenticity; they strengthen it,” Banks said.

“If we want African creativity to compete globally, we must leverage blockchain for ownership, AI for innovation, and digital tools for access.”

He highlighted the work of Hevy Hub, which nurtures hybrid creators through training, mentorship, and infrastructure, aiming to close gaps for young Africans seeking to thrive in the global digital economy.

Banks’ remarks underscored the importance of technology not just as a tool for efficiency, but as a mechanism to preserve and amplify African culture while enabling economic opportunities for creators.
