Yeni Kuti defends Osupa spiritual claim defence, saying Fuji star Saheed Osupa’s belief in Ifa should not be condemned

Nigerian media personality Yeni Kuti has defended Fuji music veteran Saheed Okunola, popularly known as King Saheed Osupa, over public reactions to his recent comments about spirituality and success during a performance in Lagos.

Osupa spiritual claim defence came after a video surfaced showing the Fuji star speaking light-heartedly to his backup singers at the 52nd birthday celebration of Nollywood actor Fatai Odua, also known as Lalude, held on March 30, 2026.

During the performance, Saheed Osupa advised members of his band to explore spiritual means to improve their memory and performance, a remark that sparked debate online.

Speaking in an interview with TVC Entertainment, Yeni Kuti said there was nothing wrong with Osupa’s position, stressing that his reference to spirituality should not be misinterpreted as harmful or malicious.

She argued that individuals have the right to seek spiritual guidance in ways that align with their beliefs, comparing it to religious practices in Christianity and Islam where prayers are offered for success and well-being.

According to her, the controversy stems from misconceptions about traditional spirituality, which she insisted should not automatically be viewed negatively if it is not directed at harming others.
