One Battle After Another Oscars Wins headline the 98th Academy Awards as Paul Thomas Anderson’s film claims six awards including Best Picture

One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, emerged as the dominant film at the 98th Academy Awards, winning six major awards including Best Picture at the ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre.

The film, described as an ironic examination of nativism and activism, also secured Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for Anderson, marking a powerful milestone after three decades in filmmaking without an Oscar victory.

The night also delivered strong performances from Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler.

The film entered the awards with a record 16 nominations and ultimately claimed four wins, including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan.

Jordan’s victory came after a competitive awards season battle with Timothée Chalamet, who had gained early momentum after wins at the Golden Globe Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards.

Jordan’s upset triumph at the Screen Actors Guild Awards helped shift expectations ahead of the Oscars.

Another highlight of the evening was the emergence of several first-time winners across major categories.

Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for her role in Hamnet, while veteran performer Amy Madigan claimed Best Supporting Actress for Weapons.

The only exception to the first-time winners trend came from Sean Penn, who won Best Supporting Actor for his role in One Battle After Another.

The victory marked Penn’s third acting Oscar, placing him alongside Daniel Day-Lewis, Jack Nicholson and Walter Brennan among the few male actors with three Academy Awards.

Meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio, who starred in the Best Picture winner, left the ceremony without an award despite his nomination for Best Actor.

Elsewhere, Frankenstein secured multiple craft honours, while the animated feature KPop Demon Hunters claimed the Best Animated Feature award.

The ceremony also recognised global cinema, with Sentimental Value winning Best International Feature.
