Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, the award-winning rapper said authenticity and a clear sense of identity were more important to him than global validation.

Olamide, who has been instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s modern hip-hop and Afrobeats scenes, proudly affirmed his roots, saying:

He explained that identifying and connecting with one’s audience is key to success, adding that genuine music will eventually resonate beyond borders.

“You have to identify your audience. Once you identify your audience, the rest of the world will catch up eventually,” he said.
“I have to stay true to myself. I’m comfortable in my skin — I’m a Naija guy, Yoruba boy, I have H-Factor and all that, and I’m proud about it.”

Olamide, who has mentored several top Afrobeats stars including Asake, Fireboy DML, and Adekunle Gold, is widely celebrated for promoting Yoruba rap and street culture through his label YBNL Nation.
