Kunle Afolayan revives Kadara YouTube Release as filmmaker shares 1980 classic by Ade Love on YouTube, celebrating Nigerian cinema heritage

Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has announced the release of the 1980 Yoruba classic Kadara, originally produced by his late father, Adeyemi Afolayan, on YouTube.

The announcement was made on Tuesday via his Instagram page, where he shared a short clip from the restored film and confirmed that it would premiere online at 6pm Nigerian time.

Describing the project as a legacy moment, Kunle Afolayan said the film reflects the timeless theme of destiny and resilience, adding that its message remains relevant decades after its original release.

Kadara, first released in 1980, tells the story of rivalry between a humble farmer and a wealthy man competing for the hand of a princess, featuring some of Nigeria’s most iconic veteran actors.

The cast includes industry legends such as Adebayo Salami, Lere Paimo, Charles Olumo, Jimoh Aliu, Sunday Omobolanle, and Lanre Hassan, among others, marking it as one of the most celebrated Yoruba classics of its era.

Kunle Afolayan urged fans to subscribe to his streaming platform and support the digital revival of classic Nigerian cinema, encouraging viewers to engage with the film upon its release.

The late Adeyemi Afolayan, widely known as Ade Love, is regarded as one of the pioneers of indigenous Nigerian filmmaking, with a legacy that continues to influence modern Nollywood storytelling.
