Kiefer Sutherland Arrested Following Ride-Share Dispute

Kiefer Sutherland arrest in Hollywood follows alleged assault and threats toward a ride-share driver; actor released on $50,000 bond

Actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early Monday following an alleged altercation with a ride-share driver at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles Police Department officials confirmed.

Police said the incident occurred at approximately 12:15 a.m. PST (08:15 GMT) and involved the actor physically assaulting the driver and issuing criminal threats.

Authorities noted that the driver was not injured.

Sutherland, 59, was taken into custody by the LAPD’s Hollywood Division and released after posting a $50,000 (£37,000) bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on 2 February.

The case remains under investigation as police continue to gather statements and review evidence from the scene. Officials have not confirmed whether additional charges may be filed.

The Canadian actor is known for his roles as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in 24 and as the U.S. president in Designated Survivor.

He is the son of the late acclaimed actor Donald Sutherland.

This arrest adds to Sutherland’s history of legal issues.

In 2007, he was sentenced to 48 days in jail for driving under the influence and probation violations.

He faced an assault allegation in 2009, later dropped, and was arrested in 2020 following an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.

Police continue to investigate the incident as they review statements and evidence from witnesses and the involved parties.
