Jemima Osunde Condemns Driver for Alleged Traffic Violation in Lagos

The Nollywood actress says she refused to give way to a motorist allegedly driving against traffic

Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has criticised an alleged traffic violation by a motorist in Lagos, saying on Monday, August 17, 2026, that she refused to leave her lane for a driver who allegedly moved against traffic to escape congestion.

Osunde expressed her frustration in a video shared online, where she described the incident as another example of what she sees as disregard for traffic rules on Lagos roads.

According to the actress, the motorist left the appropriate lane and entered a lane designated for vehicles travelling towards Lekki, apparently in an attempt to avoid the traffic ahead.

Rather than allowing the vehicle through, Osunde said she remained in her lane and refused to make way.

“I will not leave my lane for you when you are passing one way. I won’t do it. I don’t care if you have police in your car,” she said.

The actress said motorists should not be allowed to disregard traffic regulations simply because roads are congested.

For Osunde, the issue was not only the inconvenience caused by the incident but also the wider attitude towards road discipline in Lagos.

“I’m sick of Nigerians just doing anyhow, as if Lagos is not congested enough, without you passing one way and breaking traffic lights,” she said.

Her comments reflect a familiar frustration among Lagos road users, where heavy traffic can encourage some motorists to take prohibited routes or make other manoeuvres in an attempt to shorten their journeys.

Osunde maintained that she was prepared to remain in traffic rather than facilitate what she considered an unlawful move.

She also drew a distinction between ordinary motorists and vehicles responding to emergencies.

“Unless you’re an ambulance or a fire truck and emergency service, I will not leave my lane for you when you’re passing one way. I won’t,” she added.

The actress’s reaction has renewed discussion about road discipline, traffic congestion and the pressure faced by motorists navigating Lagos, one of Nigeria’s busiest urban centres.

While congestion remains a persistent challenge for commuters, traffic regulations are intended to keep vehicles moving safely and reduce the risks created by motorists travelling against the permitted flow of traffic.

Osunde’s intervention ultimately centred on a simple principle: traffic congestion, however frustrating, should not become an excuse for motorists to disregard the rules governing the road.
