Jarvis opens up about her troubled childhood, financial struggles, TikTok journey and unexpected relationship with Peller
Nigerian content creator Elizabeth Amadu, popularly known as Jarvis, has opened up about her troubled childhood, financial hardship, early struggles on TikTok and the unexpected relationship that developed after she met fellow content creator Peller in a livestream.
Jarvis shared the deeply personal account while reflecting on the experiences that shaped her upbringing and eventual rise as a digital creator.
She said she spent much of her childhood living with her grandparents after growing up in a turbulent family environment.
According to Jarvis, her mother lives with bipolar disorder, and managing the instability at home made her early years particularly difficult.
“I was already exhausted. Grandpa was sick, and I came into a family through a mother who has bipolar disorder,” she said.
Jarvis recalled that her mother’s condition could sometimes lead to unpredictable behaviour at home, leaving the children distressed and uncertain about what each day might bring.
“Growing up with her was very stressful and depressing because sometimes the disorder could be extreme,” she said.
The content creator also revealed that she grew up without knowing her biological father. She said her mother had travelled outside Nigeria, became pregnant and later returned to the country, where Jarvis was born.
“I didn’t grow up with my dad because I don’t know who my dad is,” she said.
Jarvis credited her grandparents with providing the structure and discipline she needed during those formative years.
She described them as educated and strict, saying their approach helped shape her character despite the difficulties surrounding her childhood.
“I grew up with my grandma and grandpa, and they did their best to raise me well,” she said. “That strictness was what tamed me, and I appreciate them because it really helped shape my life.”
Financial hardship became another defining part of her upbringing. Jarvis recalled periods when she and her sister struggled to pay school fees and sometimes went without food.
She said the experience strengthened her determination to remain in school and find legitimate ways of supporting herself rather than following the wrong influences around her.
A friend she met through TikTok eventually introduced her to livestreaming as a possible source of income.
Jarvis recalled that her first attempt with her sister attracted about 200 viewers and earned them $5.
The small payment became a powerful source of encouragement because the sisters were struggling with basic needs at the time.
“Because we were always hungry, we would go on TikTok and watch food videos just to feel satisfied,” she said.
Jarvis and her sister subsequently continued livestreaming, despite resistance from members of their family who viewed social media negatively.
For the sisters, the motivation was straightforward. They wanted to raise money for their education and improve their circumstances.
Her journey on TikTok would eventually lead to another unexpected chapter when she met Peller.
Jarvis said their first encounter happened during a livestream, where Peller initially appeared more interested in her sister.
“I met Peller on a livestream. He was wooing my sister,” she said.
Jarvis said she initially encouraged Peller to focus his attention on her sister, believing the two might be better suited to each other.
“I was like, ‘Bro, don’t talk to me. Talk to my sister. You and her would have that connection.’”
She said she was initially reluctant to consider Peller’s advances because of her shyness, concerns about how her family would react and the difference in their ages.
Jarvis also said she did not initially imagine that their interactions would develop into a relationship.
“For me, it was simply, ‘Let’s create content and have fun. Dey your dey, let me dey my dey. If we meet in front, we’ll just be friends.’”
Looking back, Jarvis said she never expected the connection that began during a livestream to become such a significant part of her life.
“I never expected all of this to become reality,” she said.
Her account offers a rare glimpse into the difficult experiences behind her public persona, from family instability and hunger to discovering an unconventional route to financial independence through social media.
Jarvis’ story also reflects the growing role of digital platforms in creating opportunities for young Nigerians, particularly those seeking alternative ways to earn an income and build careers outside traditional employment.
