Funke Akindele, Nigeria’s leading filmmaker and actress, has marked her birthday with an exciting announcement — a new blockbuster movie titled “Behind The Scenes,” premiering in December 2025.

The beloved star, fondly known as Jenifa, shared the news via her social media handles on Sunday, August 24, while celebrating her birthday with fans and well-wishers.
“It’s my birthday today, and I feel so fulfilled. I’m graciously grateful to God for the grace to keep telling our stories,” she wrote.
“I’m using this special day to reveal my blockbuster movie Behind The Scenes! Expect something intriguing, captivating, and powerful. This one is very close to my heart.”
Funke Akindele, born in Ikorodu, Lagos in 1977, is not just a household name but a powerhouse in the Nigerian film industry.
She began her journey with the UNFPA-sponsored series I Need to Know and has since built an award-winning career spanning decades.
She is the creative mind behind Jenifa’s Diary, multiple AMVCA-winning comedies, and cinematic blockbusters like:
- Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020) – Nigeria’s highest-grossing film
- Battle on Buka Street (2022)
- A Tribe Called Judah (2023)
With over ₦4.7 billion in box office earnings, Akindele remains the highest-grossing director in Nigeria and only the second filmmaker to surpass the ₦1 billion mark.
