In a recent interview with Pulse Nigeria, the rapper and actor made it clear that his role as an activist stems purely from compassion, not political ambition.

While promoting his new project titled The Feast, Falz was asked about the possibility of ever running for public office.

His response was immediate and firm. “Politics, ke? No, it’s a big no. What’s my business with politics?” he said.

The multi-award-winning artiste elaborated that politics demands qualities he does not possess.

“I can never become a politician. I don’t think I’d ever be able to be one because being one requires some traits that I don’t possess, a lot of negative traits. Even some ‘normal’ traits, like being patient and always being ‘on’, I can’t do it.”

I can never become a politician. Speaking out comes from compassion, not ambition. I’m built to care, not to campaign.

Although widely admired for his activism especially among young Nigerians Falz insists that his drive to speak out comes from within, not from a desire for power or leadership.

“Compassion, I just care and I cannot afford to witness everything I witness and not say anything and not do anything about it. It’s just the way that I’m built,” he said.

Falz, who trained as a lawyer and is the son of human rights advocate Femi Falana (SAN), has used his music and public platform to campaign against police brutality and government corruption.

His work during the End SARS movement and his socially conscious songs have earned him national recognition. Still, he believes that activism and politics do not have to go hand in hand.

In his words, “Nobody is putting fire on my backside and telling me that I must do this or I must do that, it just comes.”

While Falz continues to hold leaders accountable through his music and actions, he maintains that his mission is to inspire change from the outside—not from within the political system.
