Davido Zlatan City Boy reaction: Davido reacts after Zlatan Ibile rejects “City Boy Movement” mention at MAPOLY homecoming concert

Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and rapper Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, known as Zlatan Ibile, drew widespread attention on Thursday, July 3, 2026, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, after a viral moment at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic’s homecoming concert sparked reactions across social media and the entertainment industry.

The event, tagged Symbol of Hope Homecoming, was held at the institution’s Sports Centre and attracted a large crowd of students, alumni and fans, with Zlatan Ibile returning to the school where he studied between 2011 and 2012 to celebrate his journey in music and personal growth.

Tension briefly rose during an award presentation segment when the event’s master of ceremonies attempted to dedicate an honour to the “City Boy Movement,” a phrase associated with Davido’s fan base and political branding within popular culture circles.

Zlatan Ibile immediately interrupted the announcement, visibly correcting the statement and distancing himself from the label in front of the cheering audience.

“Bro, I don’t understand what you’re saying. No be City Boy movement we come do for here,” Zlatan said, a moment that quickly went viral across social media platforms and triggered widespread discussion among fans.

Despite the brief tension, the concert continued on a celebratory note, with Zlatan reflecting on his early struggles in the music industry and reconnecting on stage with an old schoolmate. The rapper also used the platform to encourage students to remain hopeful and focused despite economic and personal challenges.

The homecoming event also featured performances from Small Doctor and Carter Efe, while surprise appearances from Mayorkun and Peruzzi added to the atmosphere. Rapper Olamide, widely regarded as one of Zlatan’s early supporters in the industry, also acknowledged the event online.

The viral moment gained further traction after Davido reacted in a comment under a post shared by entertainer Tunde Ednut, expressing concern about how the situation was being framed online.

“Una wan put my brother for wahala,” Davido wrote, a statement interpreted by many fans as an attempt to calm tensions and discourage online controversy.

His reaction has since added another layer to the conversation, with fans debating whether the exchange was a misunderstanding, a playful correction, or a reflection of growing sensitivity around fan movements and celebrity associations in the Afrobeats space.

Industry observers note that such viral moments often amplify cultural narratives within Nigerian entertainment, where music, identity and fan culture frequently intersect in highly public and emotional ways.
