AFRIMMA posted the result on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, after a ceremony and festival on 12 September at Annette Strauss Square in Dallas, Texas.

5IVE, his fifth studio album, released in April 2025, beat No Sign of Weakness by Burna Boy, M$NEY by Asake, Clarity of Mind by Omah Lay, Top of The Morning Era by Black Sherif and further nominated sets from Tyla, Lloyiso, Leigh-Anne and Himra.

Davido entered the night as the most nominated act, with five nods that also covered Artist of the Year, Best Male West Africa, Crossing Boundaries With Music, and recognition for With You with Omah Lay. Artist of the Year and the crossing-boundaries honour went instead to Congolese star Fally Ipupa.

AFRIMMA wrote: “A huge congratulations to Davido 5IVE on winning ALBUM OF THE YEAR at AFRIMMA 2026! Another incredible achievement for one of Africa’s biggest global music icons. Keep taking African music to the world!”

The awards returned after a two-year pause and were staged as a wider festival of acts, food and fashion.

Other published winners included BNXN and Sarz for Song of the Year with Back Outside, Director Pink for Best Video Director, and Diamond Platnumz featuring Juma Jux for Best Collaboration with Joy.

Nigerian names ran through several lists. That is the usual Dallas pattern for AFRIMMA, a diaspora-facing show rather than a Lagos industry ballot.

5IVE is built on guest turns with Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, Omah Lay and Victony and on the growth-and-reset language Davido has used since the record landed.

An AFRIMMA album trophy does not rewrite streaming tables or the Grammy board. It does confirm that, a year on, the project still reads as the one to beat in this particular room.

For an artist who already treats awards season as a second calendar, the useful fact is narrower. The fifth album kept the fifth-album prize.

The other four nominations did not all convert. That is still a headline night in Texas.
