CDQ Reveals Why Davido’s DMW Deal Fell Through

Nigerian rapper CDQ shares why a potential record deal with Davido’s DMW collapsed, citing loyalty to producer Masterkraft and a proposed partnership model

Popular Nigerian rapper, Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, better known as CDQ, has opened up about why a potential music deal with Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, never came to fruition.

In a recent interview, CDQ recounted how Davido once reached out to him via Twitter, expressing interest in signing him to Davido Music Worldwide (DMW).

At the time, Davido had just concluded a successful African tour and was looking to invest in fresh talent.

“Davido told me he had made a lot of money from his African tour and wanted to invest it by making me the biggest rapper in Africa,” CDQ revealed.

I told him that whatever I’m doing, Masterkraft has to be involved.

However, CDQ insisted that his long-time collaborator and producer, Masterkraft, had to be part of any arrangement regarding his career.

During a meeting with Davido, Masterkraft proposed a partnership rather than a traditional recording deal.

“I told him that whatever I’m doing, Masterkraft has to be involved,” CDQ said.

“So Masterkraft and I went to meet Davido. Masterkraft explained that CDQ was already a movement on the streets and suggested a partnership instead of a recording deal — but Davido declined, and the deal eventually fell through.”
