Funke Akindele’s “Behind The Scenes” earns over N500M in one week, becoming Nollywood’s highest-grossing film of 2025 and setting multiple records

Award-winning actress and producer Funke Akindele, celebrated a historic milestone as her latest film, “Behind The Scenes,” crossed N500 million in box office earnings within its first week, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025.

The film, distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, broke five opening-weekend records, marking it as the first Nollywood release this year to achieve such a feat.

Akindele shared her excitement on social media:

“And yet, another history has been made. Thank you, West Africa, for showing up, filling cinemas, and carrying this story with love. ₦512M at the box office. Highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025. Fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦500M. Number one film of the weekend. This is what belief looks like. Behind the scenes of a historic run.”

Following an advanced screening on 10 and 11 December, the film’s nationwide release on 12 December drew large audiences, generating widespread buzz.

The production features an all-star cast, including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana, among others, contributing to its commercial success.

Akindele’s previous projects set similar milestones.

Her film “Everybody Loves Jenifa” became Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend ever, surpassing her earlier record with “A Tribe Called Judah,” which earned N113 million.

“Everybody Loves Jenifa” went on to gross over N1.8 billion domestically, with additional revenue from international markets.
