Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes becomes the first Nollywood film to surpass ₦2 billion at the box office, earning praise from NFC and fans

The Nigerian Film Corporation has congratulated Funke Akindele and the Behind The Scenes team for achieving a historic milestone, as the film surpassed ₦2 billion in ticket sales, making it the first Nollywood production in Africa to reach this mark, NFC CEO Dr. Ali Nuhu announced on Instagram.

Released on 12 December 2025, Behind The Scenes has resonated with audiences nationwide and abroad, topping box office charts in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Dr. Nuhu attributed the success to the creative vision, strategic production, and distribution efforts, as well as the dedication of the cast and crew.

“From an industry perspective, Behind The Scenes reflects a significant evolution in Nollywood’s commercial and artistic maturity,” Nuhu wrote.

He highlighted milestones such as being the fastest film in West Africa to cross ₦1 billion within weeks of release and achieving the highest single-day gross on Boxing Day.

The achievement underscores the growing strength of Nigeria’s cinema market and its capacity to compete internationally.

The NFC described the milestone as a collective win for Nollywood, the creative economy, and Nigerian storytelling worldwide.
