Speed Darlington Says 23 Years in US Left Him Only Criminal Records

Speed Darlington US experience left him with criminal records; rapper says his wealth and mansion were built in Nigeria, not the United States

Controversial Nigerian singer and rapper Speed Darlington has disclosed that his 23-year stay in the United States left him with nothing but criminal records, claiming that his wealth and success were achieved entirely in Nigeria.

In a recent video, Darlington explained that while he retains access to the US, he chooses to spend most of his time in Nigeria, citing mental and physical well-being as key reasons.

Darlington said, “America did not favour me. I have access to the USA but I don’t want to be there all the time. The only thing I have is criminal records, arrest, arrest, arrest. So, after 23 years, I told myself it’s better for me to have access to America for a few days at a time.”

The rapper further highlighted the psychological impact of living in the US as a black man, noting that it affected his self-confidence and social interactions.

He added that in America, he often felt isolated, lonely, and constantly pressured to prove himself.

Contrasting his experience in Nigeria, Darlington said his mansion, complete with a rooftop swimming pool, and his financial independence were entirely products of his work in Lagos.

He recalled how a dispute with fellow artist Portable contributed to completing his mansion, emphasising that such milestones occurred in Nigeria rather than Las Vegas or elsewhere in the US.

Darlington concluded that while he appreciates having the option to visit the US, he values freedom and a sense of belonging more than material wealth abroad.
