Ryan Coogler’s Sinners Shatters Oscars Record With 16 Nominations

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners earns 16 Oscar nominations, setting a new record and surpassing previous bests in Academy Awards history

Sinners, the 2025 American horror film written, produced, and directed by Ryan Coogler, has set a new Academy Awards record after securing 16 nominations for the forthcoming Oscars ceremony.

The milestone makes Sinners the most nominated film in Oscars history, surpassing the long-held record of 14 nominations jointly held by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land.

The film stars Michael B Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, Miles Caton, and Hailee Steinfeld, among others, and has been widely praised for its performances and bold storytelling.

Michael B Jordan received a Best Actor nomination for his dual performance as Smoke and Stack, a demanding role that saw him portray two distinct characters within the same narrative.

Industry observers have described the recognition as a powerful affirmation of Coogler’s creative range beyond the superhero genre, where he previously found global success.

Sinners has already achieved several commercial and critical milestones, with its Oscar performance now placing it firmly in cinematic history.

Other films with strong showings this year include One Battle After Another, Frankenstein, Marty Supreme, and Sentimental Value, though none matched the record-breaking haul achieved by Sinners.
