The Nigerian media personality and reality television star addressed the controversy on Thursday, clarifying his intentions and reaffirming his commitment to help his home state.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Kiddwaya expressed that his post was misinterpreted, but was never meant to seek attention. “I’ve seen the comments. I hear the backlash.

But I didn’t post about Benue for clout. I posted because I genuinely care. I am a Benue indigene and a proud Benue man. What’s happening there breaks my heart, and I couldn’t just look away,” he wrote.

The post, which he later took down, had encouraged donations through the Kiddwaya Foundation. According to him, its removal was a gesture of respect for the concerns raised, not a retreat from the cause.

“I took the donation post down because I saw the pain and misunderstanding it caused, not because I’m ashamed of helping, but because I respect your voices, even the angry ones,” he said.

In his message, Kiddwaya reminded Nigerians of the urgency and gravity of the situation in Benue. He described the violent crisis as one that is destroying families and displacing innocent civilians.

“Right now, people in Benue are being attacked. Families are being torn apart. Lives are being lost. Innocent children, mothers, and fathers, killed or displaced from their homes. That’s the real tragedy here,” he stated.

Kiddwaya, the son of billionaire businessman Terry Waya, defended his decision to use his platform to raise awareness and funds for humanitarian assistance.

He explained that the Kiddwaya Foundation exists for moments such as these, to step in where institutional support falls short. “Community support is what gives it life. I can’t fix this crisis alone. But I can, and will, do my part,” he said.

Despite the backlash, Kiddwaya remained firm in his resolve to continue his philanthropic work. “I will not stop helping in the ways I can, regardless of people’s reactions and comments,” he stated.

He urged for unity, calling on others to join in supporting victims and addressing the suffering in Benue and beyond.

“Moving forward, I will continue on this journey of supporting my people… With more of us standing together, we can do even more. For Benue, and for every Nigerian going through pain like this,” he said. “Let me say this clearly: I will not stop caring. I will not stop showing up when lives are on the line.”

As the violence in Benue continues to claim lives and displace communities, Kiddwaya’s response draws attention to the role of public figures in humanitarian efforts—and the complex dynamics between activism, social media perception, and genuine concern.
