Audu Maikori Alleges Abduction by Ex-Governor El-Rufai

Audu Maikori alleges former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai orchestrated his abduction after a disputed tweet, calling it persecution, not prosecution

Founder and Chairman of Chocolate City Entertainment, Audu Maikori, has claimed that former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, went beyond legal channels to orchestrate his alleged abduction.

Maikori spoke during an interview on Prime Time on Arise Television, revisiting the incident that led to his arrest several years ago.

He said the controversy began with a tweet based on information from his driver, which later proved false. After admitting the error and deleting the tweet, Maikori alleged that the former governor personally arranged for his abduction.

“A governor shouldn’t do the job of the police,” Maikori stated, emphasising the difference between lawful prosecution and what he described as persecution motivated by personal or political reasons.

He added that the ordeal escalated when attempts were reportedly made to link his tweet to the alleged deaths of seven people. Despite being released by the police after an investigation, Maikori said the experience was “persecution rather than prosecution.”

The revelations have sparked mixed reactions online. Some users expressed concern over alleged abuse of power:

Nasir El-Rufai is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged corruption charges.

Earlier reports indicated that the former governor had encouraged opposition unity against President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.

El-Rufai’s legal team has criticised the alleged unlawful arrest attempts, asserting that proper legal procedures were not followed.
