The disagreement began when Caramel Plug accused Anita Joseph of using her photograph without consent and altering the image by removing her head through digital editing. The content creator expressed her displeasure over the incident, questioning the use of her image.

Following the criticism, Anita Joseph issued an apology, explaining that the situation resulted from an AI-related process rather than an intentional act. The actress said she was not someone who would deliberately engage in such behaviour and expressed regret over the incident.

However, Caramel Plug appeared unconvinced by the explanation and responded sarcastically, telling the actress to ensure her “imaginary AI boy” performed better next time. She also stated that she did not have a personal relationship with Anita Joseph.

Responding to the reaction, Anita Joseph pushed back while maintaining that she did not blame Caramel Plug for the misunderstanding. Instead, she directed responsibility towards the AI technology studio that handled the editing process.

“You see the embarrassment you caused me. Ata rom gi chai. Caramel, I no blame you at all, na @ancestral_tech_ai I blame,” Anita Joseph wrote.

The incident has renewed conversations around the growing use of artificial intelligence tools in entertainment, particularly regarding digital manipulation, image ownership and the need for creators to obtain proper consent before altering or sharing another person’s likeness.

AI-generated and AI-assisted content has become increasingly common among Nigerian entertainers and influencers, offering new creative possibilities while also raising concerns about authenticity, privacy and accountability.

Both Anita Joseph and Caramel Plug have built strong followings in Nigeria’s entertainment space, where online exchanges between public figures often attract significant audience attention.
