Senegalese-American singer Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, popularly known as Akon, has reflected on his encounter and collaboration with late pop legend Michael Jackson, describing it as the proudest moment of his career during a recent podcast appearance.

Akon’s tribute to Michael Jackson came during an episode of the “We Need To Talk” podcast, where the award-winning artist spoke passionately about his admiration for the global music icon.

Akon said a photograph taken with Michael Jackson remains the most meaningful image of his professional life, adding that he considered himself “a child” in comparison to the late singer, who he grew up idolising.

The music star expressed deep respect for Jackson’s legacy, describing him as a figure admired across the world and a major influence on his own musical journey.

Beyond his reflections on Michael Jackson, Akon also highlighted his long-standing support for African music, particularly Afrobeats, which has gained global recognition in recent years.

He noted that he has previously worked with and supported Nigerian artists, including P-Square and Wizkid, through his involvement in early music ventures connected to Empire Mates Entertainment.

Akon praised Nigerian creatives, describing them as highly intelligent and instrumental to the global rise of Afrobeats.
